12 November 2020 - Anouk Schepers | Sooner or later, hot flashes and night sweats will come around the corner ladies... Not everyone has the same symptoms, but these are the most common. Acupuncture cannot slow or stop menopause, but it may help reduce symptoms.

Menopause is the natural end of your reproductive cycle. Your ovaries make less and less of the hormone oestrogen which is preparing you for your last menstruation. This can lead to all kinds of complaints such as hot flashes, night sweats, fatigue, weight gain, constipation, headache, vaginal dryness, or palpitations, but it can also cause significant emotional fluctuations.

The most common complaints are the heat symptoms such as night sweats and hot flashes which are connected to your kidney energy. Women who experience these heat symptoms are often dealing with a Yin deficiency. This is often accompanied by liver qi stagnation which means that your energy can't flow smoothly through your body. If this happens you may also experience irritation and headaches.

Acupuncture cannot slow or stop menopause but it may help reduce symptoms as described above and give you more energy and rest by naturally rebalancing your hormone fluctuations.
